July 6, 2011 Building Committee Update

Greetings from Leonard M. Yenilaitus. I am the new chair of the Building Committee. I will try my best to convey where we are and what we are planning. At this moment in time we have studied the needs of the church with two congregational meetings. Out of the two meetings, the congregation participants identified a list of short term and long term needs. The short term needs they noted include a morph-able gymnatorium, more storage space, and ADA bathrooms. The long term needs identified by these congregational meetings include a kitchen, stage for performances, ADA elevator, separate nursery and toddler rooms, space for visiting mission groups (including youth), and emergency response shelter.

Our committee's next task is to find out the needs of the community. For this task we are going to contact community organizations and have a survey table at Borough Day.

In October we will again invite everyone in the church to help come up with ideas about how we can handle these needs of the church and the community. These meetings will be on October 6 and October 20. From 6:30 to 7:00 we will have drinks (coffee, tea) and snacks (cookies, cake). At 7:00 we will have our meeting.

Please remember that this is a Study Committee. We can only make a report to charge conference. God will be the one who will place in our hearts what we do with these ideas. I hope everyone will pray and take part in this. I know in my heart that God will speak to us. Maybe by the words that someone says at a meeting. May God guide us in what we do. Thank you.

April 21, 2011 | The following letter went out to the Church Family as well as having it posted on the website for response:

As you are aware, the Congregation recently approved the formation of a Building Committee. This group is tasked with researching the growing facilities needs of the church and how best to meet those needs through a possible expansion project. We need the input of every member of the church family to perform our task. We invite you to take the time to think about the following questions, write out some preliminary answers, and bring them to one or both of the congregational planning meetings listed below. We will enjoy a light meal at 6:00 pm and then engage in a lively discussion about the future.

1st Planning Meeting: Thursday, May 12 – 6:00 pm supper; 7:00 pm Session 1
2nd Planning Meeting: Thursday, May 26 – 6:00 pm supper; 7:00 pm Session 2

Questions:
1. In your opinion, what are the top 3 reasons why we need an addition/expansion to our facility?
2. What type of addition to the facility do you think would meet our needs and why?
3. List three specific features you would like to see in such an addition to the facility?

We are in an exciting and important time in the life of the church as we seek to discover more of God’s mission for us in our community, including how He would have us better serve our church family and community through our church facilities. This is our project as a whole Church, and every single person’s opinion and insight is important, so please plan to attend and share your perspective. We look forward to seeing you at the meetings!

Sincerely in Christ,

Don Bergen
Building Committee Chair
