Church Happenings:
Please remember to call the church office if you know of members in the hospital or if you are going to be in the hospital. A visit from our Pastor or visitation team can be arranged. Please continue to remember all those listed in the weekly bulletin in your prayers.
Members in the Hospital: Carolyn Shappell (Schuylkill Medical Center East Norwegian)
Those in Mourning: Please continue to keep the family of George Gretsky in your prayers upon his passing.
Fall Worship Schedule: Beginning on September 12 our worship times will be Saturday at 7:00 pm; Sunday worship at 8:00 am, Sunday School at 9:20 am, and worship at 10:30 am.
As part of our Safe Sanctuary Policy, it is that time again to submit your Child Abuse Clearance Forms to the church office. Any person helping in the nursery, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, or Youth Group should submit their completed forms to the church office as soon as possible. Thank you.
Greeting Card Outreach: About a year ago, a birthday card ministry was started by a few wonderful people. As we collected more data on your birthdays during the directory process, we find that we now need more volunteers to send birthday greetings to our church family. Won't you please consider taking a month or more to send out the birthday cards? We will provide the cards and a list of members and their birthdays for the month. You fill out the cards and get them to the church office in plenty of time to be mailed. Contact Shirley Y if you are interested in participating in this ministry. Please call the church office with your birthday information if we did not collect it during the directory process. We want to assure that everyone is celebrated on their birthday.

Technology today is allowing the use of photographs of individuals and groups in many different media formats. In light of this fact, the Communications Committee is requesting that the congregation take the time to review, complete, and return the Photo Release Form (available on the website or in the church) to Ruth Noecker (church webmaster). This form authorizes FUMC to use snapshots in slide presentations, on the church website, directory, newsletter, brochure, or in any other material.
“WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE…” “And all the boards did stink!” to quote some Nashville residents this year. Obscured by national events many people missed the acute distress of soaked Nashville residents following the late spring floods. Much damage was done and people struggle to reclaim their lives and homes. Repairs at best are estimated to take more than 18 months. So our VIM Team is looking to help sometime this fall. Here is our opportunity to put Christ’s Love into action: “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Gal. 6:2, RSV. Talk to Marlin Morgan or Jim Glunz and sign up on the orange sheet at the Missions Bulletin Board on the ramp downstairs.
Tech Training: Now's your chance to learn what goes on every Sunday behind you and be a part of this ministry. One-on-one or Group training available to learn the computer, soundboard, or both. Help us make this ministry stronger. Contact David Williams if you are interested in training for this ministry.
Volunteers are needed for leading worship during the Junior Church time. Junior Church is offered for children from age kindergarten to fourth grade during the 10:30 am worship service on the second and third Sundays of the month. If you would like to lead this service for our young people, please contact Kirstin Fitzpatrick. Junior Church will begin on Sunday, September 19.
Have you been worshiping at FUMC for a while and are you interested in becoming a member? We will be offering a New Members Class beginning in September. If you are interested, please call the Church Office or Jean Twardzik. We'd love to hear from you!
Community Luncheon: The community luncheon will be held on Saturday, Septemer 11, at 12:00 noon, in the church's Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to share this time of fellowship.
Over 50 Fellowship Group will be going to the Pines Dinner Theatre in Allentown for "A Pines Country Christmas" on November 13. Dinner will be at 6:30 pm. We will go by car caravan leaving the church at 5:15 pm. The cost is $46. The balance is due by September 12. Everyone is welcome!
A Tribute to Our Veterans: Looking for veterans in preparation for our salute to veterans dinner. If you are a veteran, please add your name to our honor roll in Fellowship Hall or contact Shirley Y. Mark your calendars for Friday, November 12. We will be hosting a covered dish dinner followed by a program honoring our veterans. We will also provide them the opportunity to share some of their stories.
The FUMC Talent/Variety Show Night has been postponed. Does FUMC have talent??? Unfortunately it will have to wait until Sunday, December 5. The good thing is you have plenty of time and an ideal theme (Christmas) to work on and signup prior to then. So practice your Christmas carols, skits, poetry, etc. and plan on making this a fun event.
Prayer Opportunities:
Prayer & Fasting: The 4th Sunday of every month you are invited to participate in a day/afternoon of prayer and fasting. We will be praying for our church, Pastors, families, nation, world, etc. A prayer box is placed in the back of the church for private prayer requests. They will be lifted up to God in prayer until the 4th Sunday of the following month. No human eyes will see the requests, only God!
Prayer during Worship: People are needed to pray during the 8 am and 10 am services in the prayer room and also to stay and pray with people if they want prayer after the service. If you are called to serve in this way, please contact Sonja LeVan.
Music Ministry Opportunities:
Adult Choir: There is lots of room available to anyone interested in participating in the Adult choir. We need sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. You don't need to know how to read music; you need only a desire to sing and praise the Lord through music and song. Anyone that is in the 8th grade and older is welcome to participate. Rehearsals are on Wednesday nights from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.
Bell Choir: Spirit Ringers are in need of filling two positions in the adult choir. A basic level of music reading skills is required. If you are willing to take on this fun and challenging opportunity, contact Julie Klamfoth. Rehearsals are on Wednesday nights from 6:00 to 7:00 pm and will begin on September 15.
Children's Christmas Pageant: Have you even thought about your Christmas plans yet? I have! There will be a children's Christmas pageant during the upcoming Advent season here at FUMC. All I need is you: children in grades 2 through 7 to sing, speak, and even dance to announce the birth of Jesus through a TV station in Heaven. Woo-Hoo! Please consider being a part of this joyous experience. Details will be provided in upcoming weekly bulletins and monthly newsletters. Stay tuned! Any questions? Just ask Julie! Want to help? Just tell Julie!
*** Save the Date *** Rally Day is scheduled for Sunday, September 12! We will begin our Sunday School hour that day at 9:20 am, have a Children’s Service for the 10:30 service, and then go to Twin Grove Campground for a covered dish picnic, games, fun and entertainment. The picnic will be from 1-5 pm. Christian Education is providing the hot dogs, burgers, and buns. We also will be giving everyone who comes a ticket for a free ice cream at the Ice Cream Parlor! Please note that to do the ice cream we need an estimate of who is coming, therefore sign-ups would be great. There will be a sign-up sheet in Fellowship Hall; please indicate the number of people attending and a salad, snack, etc., to share with your Church Family.
Sunday School Classes: Classes for children and adults will resume in September. Sunday School classes are a means to socialize and learn more about God's Word. Please consider involvement in one of the classes, whether you choose to be a teacher, an assistant, or participant. More detailed information will be shared as classes form for the fall.
