What is a Safe Sanctuary?
God has called us to make our ministries safe, protecting our children and youth from abuse and exploitation. God has also called us to create communities of faith where children and youth can be safe and grow strong.
Jesus taught “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me...,” (Mark 9:37 NIV) and “But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” (Matthew 18:6 NIV)
Safe Sanctuaries is an open expression of a congregation in making a congregation a safe place where children and youth may experience the abiding love of God and fellowship within the community of faith.
Our Policy
First United Methodist Church has a Safe Sanctuary policy in place. All adults who work with children have received both a Criminal Background Check and a Child Abuse Clearance from the State. If you have any questions regarding our Safe Sanctuary Policy, please call the church office at 570.385.3941.
