Children's & Youth Ministry

"Then he said to them,'Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.'" ~ Luke 9:48

“Children are a gift from God, they are His reward.” ~ Psalm 127:3

Children’s Ministry Vision Statement

FUMC understands that children are not only the future, but also the present of the church. Children are warmly welcomed into FUMC’s church life. We offer many dynamic programs for children to learn about Jesus and apply what they learn. We emphasize excitement and fun as we help kids build an unshakable faith in a safe, loving environment. We are committed to partnering with families to continue faith development at home.

Our vision is to create a safe and fun environment for all children so they know and experience God’s love. We want to guide the children in their faith to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We are committed to joining with you, the parent, in your attempt to lay down a spiritual foundation that, in God’s timing, will lead your children into a relationship with God through Jesus. Your church family wants to support you in fulfilling your God-given responsibility of starting them on a life-long journey and relationship with Jesus. As your children come to know Jesus and accept His unconditional love, they will experience peace, love, joy and the gift of eternal life. They will gain wisdom and knowledge to make choices that enable them to live a life that is pleasing to God. Accepting Jesus will empower your children to help them make wise decisions escaping the dangers that threaten their world.

Safe Sanctuary Policy

What is a Safe Sanctuary?

God has called us to make our ministries safe, protecting our children and youth from abuse and exploitation. God has also called us to create communities of faith where children and youth can be safe and grow strong.

Jesus taught “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me...,” (Mark 9:37 NIV) and “But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” (Matthew 18:6 NIV).

Safe Sanctuaries is an open expression of a congregation in making a congregation a safe place where children and youth may experience the abiding love of God and fellowship within the community of faith.

Our Policy

First United Methodist Church has a Safe Sanctuary policy in place. All adults who work with children have received both a Criminal Background Check and a Child Abuse Clearance from the State. If you have any questions regarding our Safe Sanctuary Policy, please call the church office at 570.385.3941.

Nursery (Birth through Preschool)

There is nothing quite as exciting as introducing our littlest FUMC kids to know, love and follow Jesus. This spiritual foundation begins in the nursery for your infants and toddlers, as they are lovingly cared for during services. Devoted volunteers model the love and care of Jesus through their nurturing by allowing each child to grow with happy, positive, and warm feelings about God and church. In addition, the nursery allows parents, while in worship, and those sitting around them the opportunity to grow in their faith and experience God’s presence in worship without the distraction of an active, however cute and adorable, child. After all, God did not have “stillness and silence” in mind when he created children!

As your little ones grow, they will enjoy busy active learning as our leaders make the Bible come alive in a meaningful and fun way. They will have fun as they experience a structured, relevant, and age-appropriate introduction to learning and applying Bible truths through curriculum that is fresh, stimulating, creative, and active (just like the kids themselves)!
