  • The Altar Window | First United Methodist Church

This is the stained glass window behind the altar in the sanctuary. THE ALTAR WINDOW Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. ~John 1:29 The stained glass window was designed and installed by Kim Bordner, a young man who used his talents for God’s glory. Much of the glass used in the window comes from our former church dwelling on St. John Street, reminding us of the past; and the newly added glass gives us a forward hopeful look. The Cross, the central figure of our Altar Window, captures the most intense demonstration of Christ’s love and power. The color of our cross represents Christ’s blood spilled out putting an end to ungodliness through the crucifixion, so that as Christians we are now free to live in Christ. The Lamb is the supreme symbol of innocence and gentleness. The lamb in Old Testament Scripture is the dominant sacrificial victim given up to atone for the sins of the people. In the New Testament (John 1:29), John the Baptist said upon seeing Jesus, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” The Dove represents the hovering of the Spirit of God over the Church, His people (Genesis 1:2). The Spirit of God descended “like a dove” upon Jesus at His baptism, and the Holy Spirit descends like a dove upon us when we accept Jesus as Savior. We are baptized with the Holy Spirit when we accept Christ into our lives and this identifies our baptism with His baptism. The Plants remind us that in our commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ, we are to be continually growing in our relationship and as His disciples. For just as plants grow and are nourished with water in a firm foundation of soil, so must we, as followers of Christ, be planted firmly in His word and our growth nourished in the same manner. Our Altar Window is a beautiful reminder of God’s love. Each Sunday that we gather together in worship or any time we spend time in the sanctuary to commune with Him, we are reminded of His love, sacrifice, and victory. May our Altar Window allow God’s light to shine in our soul and give us a vision of His heavenly kingdom!

  • Children's Ministry | First United Methodist Church

This provides a summary of our children's ministry. Children aren’t just the future… We believe children are not just the future, but the present of the church. They are warmly embraced in our church community. Providing families with resources like Children's Bulletins and Praise Packs, we enable children to worship alongside their parents while guiding them on their lifelong journey as disciples of Jesus. Partnering with Parents… As your church family, we want to support you in fulfilling your God-given responsibility of starting children on a life-long journey and relationship with Jesus. Therefore, we are committed to partnering with families to continue faith development at home as you build a spiritual foundation that, in God’s timing, will lead your children into a relationship with God through Jesus. Our desire as a church is to be a spiritual extension that helps equip and encourage parents as they engage with their children spiritually. Loving is a top priority… Our desire is to create a safe and engaging environment for all children so they can know and experience God’s love and grow strong in their love for Him. We want every single child to feel loved and encouraged every single week. We want them to know that we believe in them and are excited about God's purpose in their lives. We don't just see your kids as children, we see who they can become and we're excited that God is allowing us to support you and them in that process. To learn more about children's ministry, please contact our Church Office at 570.385.3941.

  • Welcome to FX! | havenfirstumc

Welcome! We're so glad you're here! We understand that children & youth are not only the future, but also the present of the church. As such, children & youth are warmly welcomed into the Christ Fellowship family and invited to participate in a variety of programs to guide them in their faith to know Jesus as Lord & Savior. Children, Youth & Family Ministry at Christ Fellowship is embodied in FX—short for Family eXperience. We believe that parents have the greatest influence on their children's spiritual growth, but we also recognize they can't do it alone. That's why FX exists: to partner with families in building lifelong disciples for Jesus. FX is a dynamic environment where both parents and kids engage with essential truths about faith, family, and friendship. From Praise Packs, allowing children to worship alongside their parents, to MoMs—a small group dedicated to mothers and their little ones, to our senior high youth programs, FX offers a holistic discipleship experience that strengthens both families' relationship with God and each other. • The Lion and the Lamb Sculpture | First United Methodist Church

This is a wooden sculpture of the Lion and the Lamb with many hidden symbols carved into the sculpture. THE LION AND THE LAMB SCULPTURE The sculpture of the Lion and the Lamb which is on display in the narthex of First United Methodist Church, Schuylkill Haven was given by an anonymous giver to the glory of God. The inspiration for the form of the sculpture comes from two of the titles of Jesus Christ: “Lion of Judah” and “Lamb of God”. The hidden symbols carved on the statue as aspects of these two names can be discovered by the diligent viewer by carefully examining the work. The statue was sculpted by Mr. Todd Gladfelter, whose wood-carving studio is in New Ringgold. His wood carvings of various animals and wildlife can be seen at various locations around Schuylkill County and beyond. Mr. Gladfelter used photos and paintings of the ‘lion and lamb’ motif with theological advice on Christian symbols from Pastor Fisher, as well as live goats from his own flock as help and inspiration for the form of the sculpture. It was completed in April-May, 2018 and dedicated to the glory of God on May 27, 2018. The sculpture can be seen in the narthex of First United Methodist Church.

Christian volunteer teams of 20-30 men (for men’s prisons) and women (for women’s prisons) are well trained for the first visit which is a three-day event. On this weekend, the team teaches a short introductory course on Christianity. Subsequent visits are monthly 2-4 hour reunions with the prisoners over a twelve-month period. Kairos Outside provides spiritual healing for female family members of the incarcerated, who often feel that they too are "doing time". Female spouses, parents, and other relatives of prisoners meet with teams of Kairos volunteers to share their faith and gain strength from Christian community.
